Green School Status

One of our school values is respect.  Children are taught from a very young age to respect the environment and how they can take constructive steps to prevent further damage.  In February 2019, we were awarded ‘Green School Status’ for our ongoing commitment to the environment.  Our Eco-Warrior team, led by some older students, have championed change through the following initiatives:

  • Green Tie Award: children are selected for any commendable actions which have helped improve the school or wider environment and presented with a green tie to wear for the week.
  • Monthly beach cleans: Every class is timetabled so that one local beach clean is completed each month.
  • Curriculum planning: We are committed to teaching children about sustainability and the need for urgent action to prevent further global destruction.  For example, in science this year, the children learned how to make bio-plastics.  In English, the children wrote to leading supermarkets to campaign for a reduction in plastic packaging.  In art, they have created huge pieces of art from recycled pieces of plastic.
