Aims and Values
Our school motto is:
‘Aspire – Experience – Achieve’
We passionately believe in providing all children with a range of activities, be it in their area of strength or something completely new. We want to open doors to a world of possibilities and enriching experiences. Through endless encouragement and nurturing support, we want our children to achieve academically, physically and socially. At Haddon Dene, our children are happy, motivated and enthused to come to school each day. The power of a positive mind-set cannot be underestimated.
Our vision is to be a beacon of inclusive excellence, cultivating confident, talented and enthusiastic students who enjoy working with each other and are ready to influence the world and make a difference. Our ultimate aim is to give every child the opportunity to realise their fullest potential, regardless of starting points. We want to build an inner-belief, confidence and depth of character by engaging them in an exceptional breadth of activities which complement their academic ability. In equal importance, we want our children to be equipped with the right values and skills to enable them to be successful in the competitive world that lies in wait for them.
Our school values are:
These values are reinforced throughout the whole school community and are instilled in each child from the very first day they join us. Each week, a child is selected to receive the School Values Award which is presented in our celebration assembly. We also emphasise the importance of understanding what it means to be British and the values we should demonstrate in order to be model citizens. These are:
- The Rule of Law
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect
- Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Haddon Dene is run by democracy. We all get a say in the running of our school. For example, our Head Boy and Head Girl are voted in by the whole school community. Our school council meet regularly and their strength of voice is pivotal in driving forward whole school improvement. We have three rules at Haddon Dene:
- Be Ready
- Be Respectful
- Be Safe
Children understand the importance of these rules and are aware of the consequences when choosing the wrong actions. Our children are rewarded for choosing the right actions through our House Point system where children can gain the coveted red tie, which they wear for a week as a symbol of their effort or conduct. Freedom to express our individual identities is a very important aspect of being a member of the Haddon Dene community. Children express themselves through a variety of school shows and performances; they choose their own activities in Golden Time. In history, they are taught that we have this freedom because of the brave soldiers who fought for us in the World Wars. Being tolerant and showing mutual respect is a fundamental part of our ethos. Our RE curriculum teaches the importance of all faiths and in PSHE we learn to tolerate a range of beliefs. We organise a range of visits to different places of worship from Gurdwaras to Synagogues and churches.
