Well done to all of our Prep School children for their fantastic show!

There was truely wonderful acting, joyful singing and fun dancing. For such young children to put on such a well rehearsed and brilliantly performed show is quite incredible. Thank you to everyone who came to watch the children.

I would like to thank all the teachers for their hard work, in particular Mrs Bourne (Drama), Mr Redwood (Music) and Melody Ashton (Dance) for ensuring the children met your high expectations. Your hard work will give them confidence to perform for life. The quality of this production was a great credit to your team work and artistic vision. It is all too easy to forget, when watching such a lovely show, that these children range from just 3 to 7 years old!

In particular well done to Thomas and all the Year 2 children for leading the show with such superb acting.

Fun for Flight

Year 6 will be holding a ‘Fun for Flight Mini Fair’ at school on the last day of this term. They are raising funds so that they can all fly on a Piper Warrior light Aircraft from Manston over Thanet during the summer term. Obviously such an exciting treat is expensive so they intend to use their entrepreneurial skills to generate some income to help pay for their special flights.

Next Friday (30th March) at break time they are running a bric-a-brac stall, book stall, cake stall, penalty shoot out, face painting and coconut shy. Instead of tuck money next Friday perhaps you could give your child one or two pounds to spend on their Fun for Flight event. If there is any stock left after break time they will open the stalls again at the 12 noon when you collect your children.

Please do bring any donations for their stalls to the school office throughout next week.

Hearing Dogs for the Deaf

Thank you to Janet West for giving up her morning to come and tell the children all about Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. Janet herself became deaf during her teenage years and now depends upon a combination of lip reading, sign language and her beautiful little dog ‘Echo’. The children learnt so much about living with a disability and they thoroughly enjoyed seeing how responsive Echo was to Janet’s commands. Janet explained that the demand for Dogs for the Deaf is so great that sadly many deaf people have to wait for over five years to get a dog to help them live safely. It costs £46 thousand to fully train a dog for this role. We plan to do some fundraising for this worthy cause in the future.

We have one very kind little girl in our school who has already donated all the pennies from her money box to Dogs for the Deaf, well done Daisy-Rai Atkin.

Holiday Club

Holiday club was ‘sold out’ for the first time at half term. Apologies to the late applicants who did not get places. Day 1 was an indoor safari specially laid on for us at Quex, and fun in the grounds after lunch. Which involved everyone getting muddy – particularly Mr Scott!

For Day 2 we travelled to Dicken’s World, where Holly had to learn how the teacher’s would have taught during Dicken’s lifetime. On both days we conducted a rigorous geography survey concerning ice cream consumption in Manston. Loads of fun all round!

Cross Country at Hartsdown Leisure Centre

On a freezing cold January morning our brave cross country runners battled it out against children from every Thanet Primary School. We achieved some fantastic results with many of our runners gaining top ten places. Mrs Crompton was very pleased with the whole team; she particularly commended the terrific improvement of some of our runners notably Soraya and Zack.

Our young chefs have been working hard in the kitchen again this week, this time they have been busily cooking and eating pizza.

Year 6 – Cooking for Gold Competition

Whilst on the topic of cooking, I am hoping that some of our Year 6 Chefs will take up the challenge of the fantastic National ‘Cook It’ competition. The Guild of Food Writers are asking children aged 10 to 14 years old to create a delicious and imaginative two course meal with their favourite sportsperson in mind. Snow Update

The school will close at 3.30 due to the treacherous road conditions. No after school clubs. The Haddon Dene Festival of Speech and Drama will go ahead, join us from 1.45 for a 2.00 pm start.

Please can families who use the school minibus be prepared to collect and drop off their children from the nearest gritted main road, Rob will call families to plan.
